2023: Ango Abdullahi blasts el-Rufa’i for saying North will support Tinubu

Chairperson of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Prof. Ango Abdullahi responded to Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai’s remark that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will win the North in the February 25th, 2023 presidential election.

Recall that a few weeks ago el-Rufa’i reportedly stated that the North will support the APC’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, and that power would pass to the South.

According to Abdullahi, having more governors in the North does not translate into more votes for the ruling party.

He said, “I am waiting for el-Rufa’i to deliver votes to Tinubu in the North as he claimed. Who is he? Let us wait for him to deliver the votes to wherever he wants the votes to go. What I know is that, at the end of the day, it is the voters who will deliver the votes”.

He further said, “That is my position. It is not the governors that will deliver the votes. The votes cast are the ones that will be counted, and these votes will determine who has won and who has lost”.

Speaking on the chance of APC in the North, he said, “you think because APC has more states in the North than any other party, the governors will consequently swing votes for Tinubu? Well, let us wait and see whether they can. Each of the APC governors has only one vote, just like every other voter in the North. You think the APC governors will sit down and be calling the voters to tell them where they will put their votes?”
